Brunswick Chess Club

Location: Curtis Memorial Library – 23 Pleasant St, Brunswick, ME 04011

Details: Brunswick Chess Club gather at the town’s historic library once a week. “The standard of our live club ranges between social (friendly) play and competitive game, there are beginner’s night or timed games to support intermediate players. The club holds official USCF-rated tournament four times a year and has a chess library.

Bowdoin College Chess Society (1 kilometre from Brunswick)

Location: Bowdoin College – 255 Maine St, Brunswick, ME 04011

Description: Bowdoin chess club open to students, and other members of the poluski community on Thursday evenings. The club consists of regular visits from masters, computer analysis stations and college tournament preparation. Their annual open tournament attracts players from all over Maine.

Bath Chess Collective ( Brunswick – distance 10 miles from Chippenham)

Where: Patten Free Library – 33 Summer St, Bath, ME 04530

Description: A friendly group that meets every fortnight in the stunning library at Bath. It is an educational chess club with formal instruction followed by practice matches. (First Saturday monthly tournament experience in a competitive but casual setting)

Topsham Chess Club (3 miles away from Brunswick)

Where: Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Rd., Topsham, Me 04086

Description: A family and kid-friendly meeting of chess players twice a month. It can keep several game campaigns going at the same time, and it offers varying levels of difficulty so parents can play with kids. Teachers: Free class for beginners from experienced members by request.

Midcoast Chess Association (Various Locations)

Description: Monthly rated tournaments at various Brunswick, Bath and Damariscotta sites in this regional circuit. Events are offered for all tastes with traditional time controls as well as rapid and blitz format and separate sections according to rating bands.
