Details: The Dixon Chess Club meets in the library every Tuesday night from 6-8:30 p.m. All ages/levels of play are welcome in this community group. The library has tournament style chess sets and clocks. Regular monthly features include open play, strategy discussion and sometimes Sunday mini-tournaments. A handfull of school chess team members are usually present from the local high schools.
Sterling Chess Society

Details: Located 15 minutes from Dixon, this is a lively chess family that meets every Thursday from 6 to 8:30 pm. The Society runs organised programming, beginners by appointment. The club runs rated tournaments on a quarterly basis with an email list for upcoming events. Some of these even compete in regional tournaments.
Rock Falls Chess Collective

Description: This is a family friendly chess group that meets on Saturday afternoons between 1pm-4 pm. The Collective has an emphasis on chess education with teaching boards for group lessons. Special events such as parent-child tournaments and summer chess workshops for children. All equipment is provided.
Oregon Chess Club

Description: Dixon Lake 25 min drive-Field Trip _This club meets 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at times between 6 pm – 8 pm. The club draws players from all over Ogle County and occasionally has rated tournaments. The book library has a selection of chess books which can be borrowed.
Rochelle Chess Academy

Description: This free learn to play club plays on Monday evenings at 5:30 pm for beginners and at 7 pm for experienced players. The Academy runs parallel exhibitions alongside that incoming masters and also holds an annual city championship. Tournament-quality equipment is provided.
DeKalb Chess Guild
Location: DeKalb Public Library – 309 Oak St, DeKalb, IL 60115
Description: Despite being a 45-minute drive from Dixon, this long-established club is ideal for players who mean business. The club meets weekly on Friday evenings and organizes regular rated tournaments. Many of them have competed in the Illinois state championships.
